Abstract

It is a common knowledge that the First, Second and third Republics were characterized by election malpractices. One can also say without the fear of contradictions that both Republics were destroyed by election fraud. We can only avert the failures of the past if we critically examine how our previous elections had been carried out.

It seems to me that the problems of Nigeria are Nigerians themselves. Hence, it is the Nigerians we have to study and not Nigeria. Nigerians placed too much emphasis on materials wealth. Therefore, their voting rights were sold to wrong people who in turn produced wrong policies and programmes. In the light of this i make bold to make a number of suggestions to INEC on the forth coming election in 2011 and INEC should begin to think about them now.
