To Assess The Knowledge Regarding Organ Donation Among Health Personnels: A Descriptive Study

Abstract

The number of people needing transplant continues to rise faster than the number of donors. About 3,700 transplant candidates are added to the national waiting list each month. Each day, about 77 people receive organ transplants. However, 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that can’t take place because of the shortage of donated organs. There are now more than 92,000 people on waiting list. The need and demand for transplantation has a significant impact on the quality and quantity of life, who suffer from end stage disease. There are several reason for the shortage of organ perhaps the most common reason is that people are hesitant to donate organs because they do not have adequate knowledge regarding it

Material and methods: a descriptive design was selected for the study. The study was conducted on 100 health personnel’s in selected hospitals jalandhar city. Convenience sampling technique was used for the study. Data was collected by using structured knowledge questionnaire

Results: Majority of respondents were female (77%).most of them were follows Sikh religion and nearly half had G.N.M as qualification. 40 % of respondents had 2 year experience . 34% were posted in general ward and 24 were posted in intensive cardiac unit . The overall mean knowledge score was 16.86. There was no significant relationship between knowledge with their selected socio demographic variables
