Abstract

The study examined the evaluation of the implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE)programme in Rivers State. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design.Three questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study comprised all teachers in the UBE schools in Rivers State. A sample of 1000 respondents was selected using the stratified sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled ‘Evaluation of Implementation of UBE Questionnaire (EIUBEQ)’. Mean and standard deviation were used to answering the research questions while t-test was used in testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study revealed that the extent to which UBE programme has been implemented in Rivers State is high. There was no significant difference between male and female teachers in there mean ratings on the extent to which UBE programme has been implemented in Rivers State. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the state government should improve on the implementation of UBE in the state to further reduce dropout of children of school age.
