Abstract

The objectives of this paper is to critically look at the causes of militancy in the Niger Delta Region, with a view to providing acceptable solutions to address the identified and fundamental challenges facing the Region in Nigeria. Some of the problems include unemployment, injustice, environmental pollution, insincerity among the leaders, vandalization of oil pipeline, kidnapping of foreigners, insecurity, and look warm attitude of government and oil companies to the people in the region and lack of industrialization and general physical development. Some recommendations were made in order for the problems to be solved or reduced to the barest minimum, these strategies include empowering of the youths, provision of employment, provision of bursary and scholarship to the youth, compressive and holistic development of the region, provision of funds for NDDC, implementation of Niger Delta development plan and cleanup of Ogoni land, funding of amnesty programme by federal and state governments, funding of Niger Delta Ministry, Allocation of Oil blocks to the indigenes of Niger Delta Region, Economic Emancipation are Re-engineering and Re-structural of the region, regular and continuous dialog and consultations between the federal government and the people in the rigion.
