Abstract

Dribbling of urine is a debilitating condition which affects the quality of life of millions of women worldwide. In female, urinary incontinence is a silent global epidemic and one of the last medical taboos. Urinary Incontinence is reported to affect 30%–60% of women who are middle-aged and older. A pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise on practices to control dribbling of urine among women in selected villages of Tehsil Sangrah District Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh. The aim of study is to assess the effectiveness of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise on practices to control dribbling of urine among women. To demonstrate practices of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise among selected women with dribbling of urine aged 40-60years.To observes the practices of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise after demonstration. To associate the practices score with selected variables-personal, health and obstetrical. The study adopted pre-experimental design and conducted at selected villages of Tehsil Sangrah, District Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh. A total of 30 women with dribbling of urine age group between 40-60 years were selected by purposive sampling technique. Information collected by personal, obstetric and health variables of the study subjects and an observational checklist developed to observe the practices of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercises. The mean practices score of PFME of subjects are 22.77 (SD=1.357). Majority of subjects 27(90%) practiced PFME falling in category of excellent (>85) and 3(10%) subjects fall in category of good (60-85) and no one fall in poor category. There is significant association between obstetrical and health variables and practices of PFME score (p<0.05).  The study concluded that there is improvement in practices of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise among study subjects as observed on 7th day after demonstration. Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise seems to be effective to control dribbling of urine if regular practices done and it will improve quality of life
