The Application Of E-Governance In Nigeria Public Administration

Abstract
The Federal Government of Nigeria in early 2000s introduced e-government in improving transparency, provision of speedy information, efficiency and effectiveness in improving public services. Twenty years of the introduction of e-government in Nigeria, this study dwell into investigating the level of progress and the draw backs that militates against its fast development. This was done by carrying out study on the international e-government assessment and research by the United Nations E-Government Development Index Survey (EGDI) and the generality of e-governance in Nigeria public administration. The study revealed that it has been a mix of success and failure over the years. The study discovered that there has been freer flow of information between government and citizens, freer flow of information between departments, agencies and cheaper and more effective management and processing of information while it faces hindrances such as low level of literacy amongst workers in the ministries, and unequal dispersion of internet and certain degree of unwillingness on the part of government to share vital information to the public. This study concluded and recommended that e-government requires strong leadership and vision and there should be training programmes put in place to train government employees.
